We’re Not New
We've been handling Animal Control and Impound Facility work under the Dover Kennel name since 2014. Last year, our service area expanded to include the Cities of Andover, Big Lake Township, Blaine, Columbus, Fridley, Nowthen, Oak Grove, Orrock Township, Spring Lake Park, and St. Francis. We spun off from Dover Kennel into a 501(c)3 Non-profit organization in May of 2017. This allows us to better meet the needs of animals and citizens of the communities we serve .We feel our mission and vision are better represented by our new name: NORTH METRO ANIMAL CARE AND CONTROL (NMACC).
As an impound facility, we will take whatever animal is in need if requested by our contracted cities. We do not discriminate against breeds or breed stereotypes. Every animal that comes into our care is given a chance at finding a rescue that will take on their needs and requirements and place them in the most fitting adoptive home. Unlike what is commonly associated with most impounds, we do NOT euthanize any animal due to limited space. We never euthanize an animal without reasonable cause, the exceptions are dogs that are a danger to the public or an animal with severe health issues that affects its quality of life. We work with our community and local veterinarians when the occasional feral cat comes into our facility to trap-neuter-release (TNR) as they are not adoptable into homes.
Though our name has changed, our values and policies have not. We believe that every animal that comes into our facility deserves the best care and we do as much as possible to suit each individual animals’ need. Within the past year, we helped over 200 animals either find their way home, or find their way into new homes through 501(c)3 animal rescue organizations.
We have also taken in animals displaced by house fires, upon police request for incarcerated owners, assisted in wildlife rescue, and have been called upon to handle several other animal related situations that range from farm animals to domestic pets.
